Family History That’s Fit to Print: Using Newspapers in Rhode Island Genealogy Research
Traditional genealogy sources like censuses and vital records can tell us basic facts about our ancestors: where they were born, who they married, what they did for a living, and when they died. But many people want to know more about their lives. Did your ancestor get along with their neighbors? Were they a member of a club? Were they ever in trouble with the law? Did they like to throw parties?
All of this information and more can often be found in local newspapers, which documented the fabric of everyday lives, like baby showers, community meetings, domestic squabbles, and lost dogs. Join genealogist Kate Blankenship to learn the best tips and tricks for using newspapers in your Rhode Island family history research!

Kate Blankenship is a Rhode Island-based genealogist and researcher with over 15 years of experience. She is a director on the board of the RI Genealogical Society and a member of the New England Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists. Hybrid and Virtual Meetings are recorded and available to RIGS members on our website. Join RIGS today to access recordings of past meetings!
