RIGS Privacy Policy

We regard your personal information as confidential, and do not sell it to anyone. We do not share your personal information with other parties except as noted below, or in other instances where we will inform you in advance and obtain your consent. The following policies govern our collection, use, sharing, and publication of your personal information:

Membership Data

  1. Membership data includes your name, address, telephone number, email address, membership join date, and codes used to access the Members Only section of our website.
  2. We ask you to provide membership data when you join and renew your membership, and as changes occur.  We use this information to manage our membership rolls, to communicate with you by postal and electronic mail, and to grant you access to the Members Only section of our website.
  3. We provide membership data to the company that provides website services to RIGS for website management purposes only. Your name and mailing address is also provided to the company that prints and provides our mail services for our journal, RI Roots. These companies are not authorized to use this data for any other purposes. We do not provide our membership list or members’ email addresses to any other outside company or organization.
  4. We publish our online membership list in the Members Only section of our website. The membership list contains your name, address, telephone number, and email address. It is viewable only by RIGS members with access via their unique user id’s and private passwords to the Members Only section of our website. If you do not wish for your information to be included in our membership list, you may remove your information from the online membership either by changing your member settings in your member profile or by notifying us (by sending an e-mail to membership@rigensoc.org or by U.S. Mail) and we will remove it. (Note: If you became a member as a gift from another member, we will not publish any of your information in our membership directory until you direct us to do so through any of the above methods).
  5. When you submit a query to be published in our newsletter, we will include your name and contact information unless you specifically request that it not be included.

Other Data

  1. Credit Card Details: RIGS will only ask for credit card details when purchasing an item in the RIGS Online Store via PayPal. RIGS does not store your credit card information and will never ask you to enter credit card details as a means of verifying your identity or to login.
  2. External Sites: RIGS is not responsible for the content of external internet sites to which the RIGS website may link. You are advised to read the privacy policy of external sites before disclosing any personal information.

Cookies

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Remember The Risks Whenever You Use The Internet

While we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information that you transmit to RIGS and you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of any passwords or other account information. In addition other Internet sites or services that may be accessible through RIGS have separate data and privacy practices independent of us, and therefore we disclaim any responsibility or liability for their policies or actions.  Please contact those vendors and others directly if you have any questions about their privacy policies.
